The Sprout House

Say hello to the newest addition to the farm—The Sprout House. This little greenhouse may be small, but it plays a big role in getting our farm’s flowers and veggies off to a strong start.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Nebraska, it’s that spring doesn’t always mean spring (thanks, late April snowstorms). So instead of leaving things to chance, we start our seedlings here, giving them a warm, safe place to grow before facing the great outdoors.

What Grows in The Sprout House?

  • Pollinator-friendly flowers – Because bees, butterflies, and other pollinators deserve a feast.

  • Heirloom veggies – Those tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers we’ll be snacking on all summer? They start here.

  • A little experimentation – We can’t help ourselves. Every year, something new gets a trial run.

From Sprout to Field

Everything that starts in this greenhouse eventually makes its way into the farm, filling our gardens, fields, and even a few local landscapes with strong, healthy plants. The pollinators love it, we love it, and if you’ve ever had a homegrown tomato that actually tastes like a tomato, you’d love it too.

Bees know what they’re doing. They’ve got favorite crops, preferred nectar stops, and a flight plan that puts any GPS to shame. Trust the bees-they’ve been perfecting this for millions of years.

Bee Fact: Tiny Farmers in Action

Did you know honeybees can recognize different colors and shapes? They use this skill to find the best nectar sources and remember which flowers are the most rewarding. Essentially, they’re tiny, flying farmers—strategically choosing their crops and returning to the best "fields" over and over again.

So take a peek inside The Sprout House and imagine the little green miracles growing inside. Because before long, they’ll be out in the world, making life sweeter for bees, butterflies, and humans alike.
